More than just music: 10 inspiring & unconventional uses of Bandzoogle’s sitebuilder

While it is true the staff here at Bandzoogle are usually busy helping musicians feel empowered to create their own websites, we are often pleasantly surprised by some of the more creative uses of our sitebuilder.  There is so much positive work going on outside of the music community, right here under our roof. It feels wonderful to have such interesting creators, makers, healers, and teachers of all sorts contributing to the BZ community.

As with anything in life, it is so important to find balance between interests and passions, and I’m so inspired that this balance is being fostered here on Bandzoogle’s sitebuilder. We are excited to showcase some amazing projects that are BZ-hosted (and BZ-supported). Perhaps this will inspire some of the many musicians here to build a site for some of their non-musical projects (we know many of you have one or two side-hustles!) 

We also want to remind everyone that Bandzoogle’s door is open - you don’t need to be a musician to use our robust sitebuilder. I personally use BZ for several websites for my bands, artistic practice, mending collective, and digital image archives.

A La Mode Collections

The A La Mode Collections site is a treasure trove for a vintage furniture and decor appreciator like me. It is also so exciting to see decor rentals being offered through a Bandzoogle site! This is a great example of how the Sharing Economy has evolved in recent years, both as a cost-saving measure, but also an environmentally conscious alternative to buying - especially buying new. 

A La Mode’s collection of exquisite rattan furnishings and textural textile treasures are beautifully showcased using a minimal approach to the Beckett theme. It’s amazing how their custom logo gives such a balanced introduction to this thoughtfully curated site.

Relational Being

If this header image didn’t immediately soften your heart, the words and wisdom shared on the Relational Being site certainly will. The aesthetic choices made for this site really set the tone for the self-reflection, healing, and gentle learning that takes place in this space. The low-contrast font colours make the text all the more gentle as you read. The repetition of the beautiful owl logo at the top and bottom of each page grounds your experience on the site. These choices demonstrate the care and kindness that Annu clearly puts into his teaching.

Coffee, Hip-Hop and Mental Health

The CHHMH site uses Eclipse’s centered site title to make a big, and important, statement: “Poverty Erodes Dignity.” This organization is so wonderful as seen in this clear line in their bio: “The goal with CHHAMH is to encourage communities to unpack and rebuild their minds through the normalization of sharing their feelings through various forms of therapy.”
CHHAMH have created some amazing Custom Form features on their site to make access to therapy, and booking them for events, super accessible. They really showcase the broad scope of use of this feature. 

Furley

The Furley restaurant site is a perfect example of how images can make a simple website cohesive & elegant. Every corner of this site is freckled with scrumptious imagery that is sure to make you drool (just a little…). Their attention to detail and positive customer experience extends beyond their website too - they support their community by offering weekly yoga classes, events, and a farmer’s market. Amazing!

Kim Paige Creates

Theme: Duet

Kim Paige has created a lovely, warm site to showcase her stained glass pieces. I really appreciate how she has added a second “Store” feature on her “Shop Glass Art” page so that she can still showcase the items that have been sold. This is a great idea if you are thinking of setting up a Store to sell one-of-a-kind pieces. 

Tiffany Dawn

Theme: Spotlight

Tiffany Dawn is a Youtuber, Author, and Speaker, who works to foster positive body image and healthy relationships. This positive energy is definitely felt as soon as you land on her home page. We love the custom colour palate that she applied to the Spotlight theme, perfectly echoing the look of her two book covers. 

 

To Be Frank Textiles

As a textile artist myself, I was particularly excited to see another weaver using Bandzoogle! Rachel Findlay has really done a lovely job of using images and custom theme colours to convey the warmth and texture of her work. The transparency of the section backgrounds allow the texture to make its way into the whole site, while still allowing the text to be easily legible.  

 

Clue Kingdom

It has been so inspiring to see what kinds of new websites are being created during the pandemic, and The Panic Room (UK) jumped right on this as their brick and mortar Escape Room business had to close their doors in March. They have created several online escape room sites, including Clue Kingdom using Bandzoogle’s not-in-menu and password-protected pages. It is amazing how such a complex world can be created with these simple tools. 

Studio 8 Fitness

Theme: Meridian

Studio 8 Fitness’ goal is to create a positive and empowering space to work out. That is really felt with all the custom touches on their site, like cohesive section styles and the custom logo over their header image. We always recommend using a logo separate from your header image to make sure that no text gets cut off on smaller screens (check!) They’ve also made great use of subpages to neatly lay out all of their classes and offerings, with easy access to purchasing class passes right on these pages. 

Small Engine Cams

I don’t know about you, but I love machines! The Small Engine Cams site is absolutely fascinating to browse through. They manufacture and sell specialty parts for small engines and machines. They have gone all-out with the Store feature on their site, and have hundreds of products available. Super neat!
